Other housing options

There is a range of affordable housing available in the Solihull borough.  Apart from renting a council home you could also consider the following options.

  • Shared Ownership
  • HomeBuy
  • Private Rental
  • Mutual Exchange
PHOENIX HOUSE EXTRA CARE SCHEME
Newly built one and two bedroom apartments in Shirley for people with a need for care or support.

Phoenix House is an extra care housing scheme comprising 43 one bedroom and 6 two bedroom apartments, of which most are for rent and 6 are for sale on a shared ownership basis.  The accommodation is entirely self-contained but residents do have access to a 24 hour care and support team.  The scheme is intended for older adults with care or support needs, allowing residents to retain their independence within a supportive and enabling environment.

Because residents must have a need for the specialist care provided, it will be necessary to undertake an assessment to confirm eligibility for the scheme.  All eligible applications will be considered by an Allocations Panel.  The Panel will determine priority and make final decisions on who will be offered vacant apartments within the scheme.

The process for prospective purchasers will be slightly different.

For more information on the scheme visit the website www.phoenix-house-solihull.co.uk

MUTUAL EXCHANGE

Solihull's mutual exchange scheme is now live.  This scheme lets you swap your home with another social housing tenant.  If you have low priority on the housing register, you should think about mutual exchange as a real option to meet your housing requirements.  Mutual exchange is a self-help scheme and it is up to you to advertise your property and look for someone to swap with.

As a secure tenant, you have the right to exchange your home as long as you have our written permission.  We will not refuse permission unless we have a good reason.  You will need to sign a deed of assignment to make the exchange legal.
